interest in the 84 4kq
I'm going to check out that 87 tqw I was interested in.
The guy wants way too much money for it ($5000, 88k) but
if I can get him to a reasonable price, I will need to
sell my 84 in short order.
(Also, if I pass, here's the skinny on the wagon - orig owner,
barcoloungers, broken into at least twice, repainted in spots,
needs front shocks)
Here's a quick summary:
- 84 4kq, the older look (only produced 1 year. was also the first
4dr Audi to feature the quattro system)
- odo shows 148k. Engine is out of an 86, has about 115k on it
now.
- runs strong, probably faster than my 85 4kq
- body and interior good, clean, but outside has some dings and
could use a bit of touchup or repaint.
- h4/h1 euro lights with custom harness and relays
- complete clutch replacement when the engine went in
- new or recent:
- suspension and bushings all around
- clutch slave
- battery
- brakes and rotors all around
- timing belt and water pump
- alternator rebuild
- etc etc etc
- custom interior stuff - relocated diff locks to below dash
panel, triple gauges in console (oil pressure, voltmeter, oil
temp). Kenwood stereo with Polk/Pioneer speakers.
- added side skirts off 85-7 4kq, so it looks pretty neat (IMO).
I've replaced and rewired just about the entire car.
It runs and drives 100%. Diff locks work fine, shifts
fine, etc.
Immediate needs:
- a/c compressor was shot, removed. Held pressure fine so $100
and some freon will get you running again.
- heater core is starting to weep (I think) as evidenced by a slight
fogging and smell.
- rear left caliper handbrake mechanism sticks.
- rear diff needs bushings/mounts (clunk in the rear)
- valve cover gasket
Like I said, the car is just about perfect. I'm tempted
by this wagon because a) I've always wanted a wagon, b)
it has a turbo, and c) this 4kq is now 13 years old,
I think it's time for something newer.
If you think you might be interested in it, drop me a line.
Price will be somewhere around $3k, which might seem high to
the bargain hunters, but keep in mind that it has low miles,
EVERYTHING in sight is new, and it has a lot of custom stuff
like the lights and rims (MSW 14", which I may keep).
I've got well over 5-6k into this car (I stopped counting
a while back...)
Alternatively, I was thinking of raffling it off for $10
a ticket or something, 500 ticket limit, with the excess
proceeds going to fund the move of the list to its own server.
