Smokin'....

Okay folks.. here's a good one. I'm sure someone will have some thoughts on this...

I'm driving along, 2.5 hours to my office (yes... I will be moving closer, eventually), in the pouring rain, and all of a sudden, I see some smoke come out of where the windshield wiper stalk mounts to the steering column. There is that tell-tale smell of something electrical burning... but then, almost as quickly as it appeared, the smoke and smell were gone.

Nothing else from then on... for the rest of the trip there, and nothing on the way home (and it was raining on the way home too).

The wipers and everything else seemed to work fine. I didn't test the airbag, though... :-)

FWIW, the wipers were chattering across the windshield (i.e. the Rain-X wore off, I guess), if that makes any difference.

Any ideas of what this could have been? Was this a smoke signal (pun intended) from the Audi gods... telling me that something is on its way out soon?
