Turbo pump goes phooey...
Had a little part failure here last night...went to check the auto
transmision fluid (it's not shifting into reverse every now and then
when cold - hope it's fluid...) and found white crusties on the output
hose of the turbo afterrun water pump.
It looked like it MIGHT be a loose hose clamp, so I stuck a screwdriver
on it. At the first screwdriver twist, the entire output nipple broke
off the pump, and water sprayed happily over everything. Later
examination shows tht the nipple was cracked lengthwise as well as all
around its base - so it's not repairable with epoxy.
I have the car running, no sweat; got a 4 inch piece of copper plumbing
tubing, and bypassed the pump. Unplugged the pump, too, so it won't
run.
Question for those who've BTDT:
Do I need to replace the whole pump, or can the plastic fitting with the
water inlet and outlet be replaced separately? If it's replaceable,
I'll look for a used one and cannibalize it. If not, I'll need to get a
new pump. ($$, I'm sure.)
In the meantime, I'll just cool the car down carefully before shutting
it off.
Thanks in advance for any help!
