Dangerous way to save money...
Hi!
Was chatting to someone here this morning at work, mostly about the
excitement that happened yesterday at the local track. Eventually
got to talking about the motors these guys are running. The chat
ended up with injection and carb talk. He mentioned something to me
that guys used to do in the States and Canada (he is Canadian). Since
fuel injection and carbs cannot condition/atomise the fuel enough there
is always fuel left unburnt. That's why some people use nitrous to
assist the combustion. He tells me that guys used to run their
fuel lines around the manifolds a couple of times before feeding it
into the fuel distributor or carbs. The warmer fuel helps reduce
fuel consumption radically. This is a dangerous method of saving
dough 'cos if that line destructs for some reason there is going to
be major fuel spillage all over the manifold and a fire is imminent.
I guess if you're using steel braided lines and not something
rubbery then the possibility of meltdown is less. Anyone ever done
this thing of wrapping a bit of the fuel feed line around the
manifold to any other car? If you have, what was it like on power and
consumption? Sounds like a silly thing to do, but if people do it and
it works then ... well ... why not. :)
