RE: FS 5000 CSTQ & CHINA
As far as I know (from catalogues), following Audis are being
manufactured:
- European spec Audi 100 with 4 cyl 1.8l carburatted engine
- A stretched limousine based on 100/200 platform with 200 lights and
grille. Powered by 2.2l 5cyl (or is it 2.2l 4cyl Chrysler engine? I'm
not sure about it right now).
- Recently introduced Audi 200 - looks like a 100 (44 chassis) with US
spec bumpers and hood that opens together with the grille aka post-92
100s. Don't know what the engines are.
- A newer generation (post-92) 100? I'm not sure if they've already
started building them.
As far as I know, no turbos and no quattros. I would expect that soon we
will see many Chinese made spare parts for Audis. I've just recently
bought a brand new door handle for ~$30. Unfortunately, the lock
cylinder is not interchangeable with the OE handle :-(
Having lived in China for two years, I doubt if they would be available
for $7K, unless the management decided to completely change their price
policies. I remember back in 1990 the Beijing-Jeep Cherokee with base
2.2l engine was priced at $20K+. Given that back then there was no such
thing as used car market in China, used cars being sold by foreigners
living in China had outrageous prices - for example, our friends sold
their ten years old Toyota Starlet (very small car) for about $5K

91 mountain bike (just in case both cars broke at the same time :-)
