I wouldn't bother too much with the magnifying glass - just resolder ALL the 
solder joints - also buzz through wires and connectors with an AVO.  I have 
had great success fixing intermittent faults on cars (fuel pump relays in 
particular), televisions etc. over the years with this technique.
