Ideal Angle for V V 12

I apologize if this question has already been asked, and if it deviates a
little from the main topic of the list but here it goes:

Does the 72 degree angle advertised for the new V V 12 represent the angle
between the inner cylinders of a VR6, the outer cyliners, or between the
average of the two (i.e. 7.5 degrees)?  I'm curious if the angle they chose
was based on packaging, or a desire for smoothness....most likely a
combination of the two.
