Remember that the majority of Audis are sold in the Fatherland, and air
conditioning was _extremely_ rare in cars of the 4k class. The design allows
heated air to be blown across all windows while allowing either or both of the
front seat passengers to have cold air from outside directed at their face.
The feature is especially useful when travelling with a smoker.
VAG once tried to charge me extra for it. The feature is an extra on the
Passat 'C' body, and standard on the 'GL'. My old CL5 was delivered with it,
because it had the I5 engine. The garage tried to make me pay a couple of
hundred marks for this extra air vent.
