Did they only change the pistons when going from 7.8 to 8.4 or 8.6
to 1? I assume everything else such as timing and valve head goodies
were kept the same. Or were a whole lot of extras changed when they
changed the compression?
Quicky: VIN is read off the metal ID plates at the B pillar, right?
If I could quote my VIN would it then be possible to have someone
indicate the compression they had on that model?
10.6:1 ?? non-turbo, right?

Uhm....I get a compression figure of 21:1 in my 1979 Merc W123 and
it has done 220,000km! :) Uhm...diesel though. :) heh heh. Thought I
had some of you going there for a split second. :) 'Tis my folks
car, a 1979 300D - the most perfect drive I've ever had. Everything
is mechanical! :) And for a 3 litre car it is incredible that it
has the same power output as a 1300 VW rabbit...carburettor model! :)
