I'm no airconditioning expert, but even I know that before you re-charge
the A/C you're supposed to do a leak test with a proper vacuum pump. You
evacuate the system, let it sit for 15 min, then measure remaining vacuum
(and its not supposed to lose any). Only then do you pressurize with new
freon. With the price of R12 so high, this step is not optional. That
spraying bubble stuff all over the firewall is a joke. If air can't leak
in, freon can't leak out. If the system does leak, then you only partly
charge that system, then use a modern leak detector and trace all the
fittings for the leak and repair as required.
