RE: Rear Defroster on 200TQW

I did mention in one post that I had a similar problem with the Internal
Arial, This was because one of the wires had come OFF the heated window. All
that was needed was to re-solder the connector onto the screen (scrape the
coating CAREFULLY to expose the copper underneath - then solder connector to
it!)

A little problem DID get solved by itself today, my rear cig lighter didn't
function. Now during one of those night's when you've nothing better to do, I
was sitting in the car looking at all the pretty lights, when I noticed that
the front window switches were illuminated, but the back ones were not - huh I
thought, time to get some bulbs for these switches. looking at the drivers
door switch assembly, I noticed that the child lock was enabled, so I just
pressed it in and --- the lights in the rear door switches lit up! great I
thought, now if only the rear cig lighter would only work. putting a mobile
adapter in, and presto it worked! press the child lock ----- cig lighter
DISABLED! ok, now I know that people are meant to read manuals but...... Nice
safety feature, I always remove the cig lighter JUST in case my 7Yr old takes
a fancy to pressing buttons! oh yes, before I forget, the REAR cig lighter is
attached to the damn circuit that cuts power to the windows when the door is
opened and closed (BTDT - thought the cooler that I was using blew the
circuit, ended up with warm refreshment - nope it was just designed that way
<g>)

As another question - a little off this topic but, since I mentioned cooler,
this ones got a peltier electronic cooler, why not strap a couple of these to
the IC, no mods just cooler air??<g>

Just a thought ;-)

To conclude : -
1) Get to know ALL the functions of the car!
2) Problems are sometimes caused by ignorance!

P.S. It continues to amaze me with the little gadgets

Listers,

A few weeks ago a lister posted the identical problem I have with my
1990 200TQW. I apologize if I somehow missed the answer, but I was
unable to find it anywhere. He asked about the connection/relationship
between the antenna booster and the rear window defogger. My fuses test
all OK, the switch to the rear defogger works, but nothing works (i.e.
poor radio reception, no defrosting on side mirrors nor rear window).
Could a shorted out rear lighter have anything to do with this? Thanks
for any advise!
