I'd guess to say that push rod engines can be bagged cheaper than a rotary
or some other engine.  I've generally seen them do this oil-less test on
lawn mower engines, and small 4 cyl engines at idle speeds.

Remember, if your engine siezes, most of the time its when there is no oil
anywhere, and the engine STOPS.  If you keep it running and pour oil into
the valve cover before the heat gets to an extreme, you might save the
engine block/pistons and lose the rings.
