We did it.....Cabriolet

Believe it or not, there is a VW mechanic that works on Saturday, and
what's more, I liked him. Good guy. Knew where to look and what to
look for. Based on my limited exposure, I highly recommend Angelo at
Eurobahn Automotive in Manassas, VA for all you Audi/VW/WMB/Porsche
owners out there..

So here is the prognosis:

No accidents. Not a trace of rust. Undercarriage looked like the day
it rolled off the assembly line. Slight oil leak from oil pan gasket.
Tires new. Drum brakes new. 50% left on front pads, new rotors last
time brakes were done. Top in like new condition, same with
upholstery. Recent struts. Recent Alternator. Clutch is great.
Paint/body immaculate. It turly was the little old (middle aged) lady's
car, and the receipts prove that the oil was changed every 3K. What's
more, it was changed with VW filters, because that's what her husband
believed was the right thing. fine by me. He even gave me 2 spare
filters for future changes. And he had the original brochures from when
he purchased the car. 1 American and 1 German. He was a military guy,
bought the car (US Spec) in Germany than had it sent to Norfolk. Kinda
neat.

We bought it. I didn't get my 4KQ this time, but this car is truly a
beauty. My wife loves it. I have to admit, it grew on me after driving
it for a while with the top down. I still miss my miata, but I get my Q
back now, so all is well. BTW, I'd love to have a list of those 1.8
parts you mentioned....Peppy now. Hey, will a VR6 bolt in to this
thing?......

Thanks to all for the advice/warnings! Wish me luck with it.
