RE: Tom Nas going-a-scrapyard-hunting
99% of these cars are to be rebuild, which seems like almost criminal
activity to me. Those are usually _very_ seriously damaged cars totaled
by insurance companies. They are repaired to be sold, which means no
attention to quality and safety whatsoever. I've recently spotted an '86
BMW 735i turbo (very rare beast) at a local used car lot. An impressive
car with all possible "bells and whistles" including ABS and hydraulic
rear suspension at quit a low price (about $6000 if memory serves me
right). One problem though: the passenger door won't close. It does not
quite fit the car. Or to be more precise, the car does not quite fit the
door :-)
Local junkyards are worthless. They carry very little stuff and you are
really lucky if you find what you're looking for.
The place in Holland described by Tom sounds like a paradise to me :-)
