Re: Slick 50 & friends
Listers: If you are in to additives, spend the extra money and use
Militec-1. The stuff is military spec, and has countless endorsements
from industrial users: Large diesel generators, multi-ton air
conditioning units, etc. During "Desert Storm," the military reported NO
failures of firearms treated with Militec-1. Keep in mind the truly
harsh environment of the Saudi/Iraqi desert.
I use it in my differentials, hydraulic system and air conditioning (had
my mechanic insert it with proper equipment). The area I noticed the
most improvement was with my slushbox on my '86 5k turbo. Fellow
automatic owners know what a piece of junk that tranny is. After my
SECOND rebuild in 30 k miles, I again developed an abrupt shifting
pattern when the car was very cold (when the temp outside is 40f and
below). This would last until the car was fully warmed up. Needless to
say, I could see another $1800 about to float out of my wallet (which
would have made it close to $5200 spent on a $2400 car) . In went the
appropriate amount of M-1, and away went the problem. It's pretty darn
cold in D.C. right now, and my slushie is performing beautifully.
M-1 is a metal conditioner that bonds with the metal (I know they all say
that). Trust me gang, this stuff works. None of these infomercials I've
seen yet tout an industrial or military application for their "snake
oil."
I don't know the URL for M-1, but go to an internet search and type in
the words Militec-1. I think Prolong comes closest to duplicating what
M-1 can do (this is after talking with the M-1 distributor in Rockvillle,
Maryland), but it's still not as good. Stay away from "Sick 50" and "Do
No Lube." Think of it as Hella's versus Eurolights.
This stuff is also great for the sunroof tracks. Mine sped up noticeably
after a very small application on both sides. Works very well on guns.
A little while back, a list member negotiated a discount with the
Rockville based distributor, Advanced Products Distributors on Lofstrand
Lane.
My two cents,
