Although he left them in the car for long periods of time, he always
made sure they had water to drink. A well-trained dog might wait until
its owner gives it permission to urinate, but Tom's dogs were not so
trained. So, they urinated inside the car, and the urine, being a very
corrosive substance, caused the floorboards to rust.
