UFO brake rotor question

My brother and I were discussing the UFO brakes this weekend, and I had a
question about the UFO rotors vs. normal rotors.

Is the width of the braking surface of the UFO rotor (measured from the inside
diameter of the rotor to the outside diameter of the braking surface) larger
than the width of the braking surface of a regular rotor?

If not, then the only benefit to the UFO rotors is the fact that more
rotor passes under the pads in one rotation of the wheel than happens with
a normal rotor/caliper (hence the name, swept area?). Correct?

Thanks,
Eric
