Re: Cruise Ctrl and Horn prob on '85 4KCSQ
Alright you guys,
You probably got me. I just pulled it apart the fastest way I knew how.
Especially since the fender is quite simple to remove. I also do not own
a bentley or any other publications on the car. (if it is serious I call
a friend at a dealership for printed info)
My problem was identical to the one described. In cold weather the
cruise would not hold enough vacuum (slowly decelerate). If the cruise
actuaction button was depressed it would maintain..but not pull.
I tested the diaphram at the throttle linkage (it was O.k). tested the
computer (good)...swapped--same symptoms. At this point I get in the
"war" stage...I'm going to fix it or else.
So, I replaced all the vacuum hoses and tees(to the actuator, clutch
and brake sensors, vacuum reservoir...) I also replaced the vacuum
canister at this time because the weather had warmed up enough so that
it had worked again. I did not want this problem on the next cold snap
(usually 10 degrees and below). It was probably o.k. since the vacuum
door locks held pressure but I wasn't taking a chance!
In retrospect, I think the majority of it came from a leaking clutch
sensor designed to disengage the cruise control.
I always heard that Audi owners are a bit on the anal side but... (just
kidding)
