Re: help: short life water pump :(

FWIW - On my (long gone) '87 VW GTI I had a pump start leaking at about 50k
and rather than replacing it I just carefully adjusted the tension - it was
too tight. It took some juggling and driving to get it just right so it
wouldn't slip but once done it never leaked another drop and was still in
the car at 102k when I sold it. Perhaps my hours of loving attention
appeased the Gods and all was right with the world?

My motto - NEVER question the water pump Gods. It worked... really... I SWEAR!

Regardless, the belt being over-tight could cause the premature wear.
