Re: V-6 Timing Belt

Re Trans
Audi sez the transmission oil can only be checked accurately at a specific
temp. Hence they don't want amateurs putting in too much -- no dipstick.
Quite franlky I'd like to be able to at least know if I had any in there. The
dipstick is sold by the dealer as a special tool and ordered thru the service
dept.

Re T/belt.
The services call for the belt to be checked at 30 k intervals and replaced
as nec. As the V 6 is an interference motor, many techs say change it 60 k
and be safe. Its a bit of a gamble if you don't. I do know of two V6 motors
that broke t/belts before 80 k. I'd say do it. Also be sure the water pump is
relaced and the therm as well while your there. The water pump will
undoubtedly leak a week later if you don't. (Murphy prevails)
