Re: Exhaust system for 4000q

I agree with Phil, but on the 4000q (at least my former '86), the OEM style
was made by two groups: Ansa, and Leistritz. My original went at around 90k
miles. Replaced with Ansa; it failed internally, then rusted through, within
about 30k miles. Bought the Leistritz (german) version from German Parts and
Restoration, and it was fine when I sold the car (with another 30k miles).
Again, you could get a replacement muffler made with larger pipes and
stainless steel...
As I remember, full muffler from Audi was about $1100 (better through list
venders), Ansa through Imparts was about $300, and Leistritz about $340
through GPR. Leistritz USA doesn't sell them...

Go with Audi. I just replaced an original centre section after nine years and
150000 miles.

I also replaced the rear section - aftermarket, 20000 miles and two years.

Audi is twice the price and three to four times as durable.
