Re: Wind tunnel testing a Sport Q...

The new issue of Racecar Engineering has an article about "amateurs"
using
wind tunnels and includes some info about (and two photos of) an
ex-works
Sport Q ... I found it interesting that they discovered that despite the
cow-catcher front spoiler, the car still generated lift! Unfortunately,
they don't explain how this was cured nor quantify their results ... oh,
well.

Thanks for the heads up. The article mentions a replica sport Q of the
1987 pikes
peak car which someone runs in hillclimbs in the UK. Is this the
non-original
S1 you have mentioned before phil? Anyways they talk about how the car
had
an understeer problem and how they attempted to get more downforce at
the front.
One interesting observation about the car is that it is running a normal
S1 front
valence with the milti-surface/plane pikes peak rear wing. The actual
pikes peak car
had a wing installed in front of the front valence to give it additional
front downforce.
I can't believe someone spent all that time and $$ to create an SQ
replica and
missed the front wing installed on the pikes peak car.
