I couldn't resist and dug out the magazine: It was the June, 1991 issue and
the best 0-60mph was 3.21 seconds, taking just 157.9 feet! 100mph came up at
589 feet!! Mind you, he started in 2nd gear and had to shift to 3rd gear to
reach 60mph since the car had very short rally gears that topped out at only
125mph! His best time in the 1/4 mile was 11.10 seconds and the car topped
out well before the finish lights...
Oh, yeah: The car was definitely a factory S1 (No. 8 out of the run of 20)
and it was rebuilt by David Sutton, of David Sutton Motorsport fame, before
he bought it. He purchased the Pikes Peak body parts from Audi after he had
a minor shunt and damaged the front end ... since he had to replace stuff
anyway and he already had the Sport Q that Hannu Mikkola ran in the British
Open Championship, he decided to build a PP replica. Alas, Audi Sport
wouldn't sell him one of the PDK gearboxes ... nor, apparently, the
additional front wing. ;^)
