RE: Timing Belt woes - 91 V8 5sp.

Jim,

I'll tell you what I'd do. I'd source one of the slightly larger (4.2
L?) and more powerful (280HP ?) V8 engines out of a newer 92-93 V8.
Wiring/mounting should be no problem, though the ECU may be different
(anyone?). You should be able to find a good used one with a little
searching. Try AAA Small Car World (or some such name). They advertise
all the time in Hemmings Motor news (find a copy at Barnes and Noble
bookstore). You might also call AVS in WA (360-748-8578) - I've heard
Max say he sells V8 motors pretty cheap. Otherwise call other bone
yards. (not $HOKAN).

So, if this motor swap works, you would be getting a *very* nice
upgrade. I'd do it in a snap if I were in your shoes. You have a
wonderful car, and a unique opportunity. You may find Audi willing to
help? I don't know what the drivetrain warranty is on our 91 year cars
(I know my 165k mile 91 200q is out of warranty), but you may be do some
AoA assistance here. Worth asking, anyway.

Good luck, hope you're able to get that bigger motor in there!

91 200q, TAP, Bilstein/Eibach, etc.
86 5ktq IA, Borla, etc

     - Spend the $5,000 and let the dealer repair the car and continue
to
enjoy the best in German engineering until I or the car expire.

     - Locate another V8 engine and drop it in - estimated repair $3,500
to
     $5,000

     - Sell the car to the dealer for "something under $10k".

     - Fix the car and sell it- I would like to get something under
     warranty.

     Any thoughts ????
