weird steering

The steering on my 88 90 has begun to feel kinda floaty at highway speeds 
(55+). It is better in turns, but it feels as if there is a dead spot 
when just going straight. Also there is a bad shudder or shake when I go 
above 70. Is it just in need of an alignment or is it something more 
serious or dangerous?

Also, when I turn on the heat, it smells as if it is coming straight from 
the exhaust pipe. I know that I have a small hole in my exhaust near the 
fron t of the pssenger compartment, but I didn't think that it wasthat 
big of a deal. The smell disappears once I am driving, any thoughts?
