Well, I'll make a comment, even though its for tight-radius/high-rpm
motorcycle timing belts rather than cars' less heavily stressed belts.
The specific example here are Ducati's two cam belts:

The recommended change interval is 10-12,000 miles (the factory has modified
their position on this several times) or 24 months.   The belts are a pretty
standard toothed rubber affair and are manufactured by Gates in Germany (and
aren't available from Gates in the US, too bad,  only 10 k miles and its time
for 2 $60 belts. ughhh)

Just a datapoint.
