Timing belts - age of

Indeed - the parts are cheap enough.  The labour cost, if you get it done 
professionally, varies from very high to frightening.
 
On the MB engine in the ur-quattro (UK-only, but a close relative of the MC-2 
engine used in the 5000TQ) it's nominally a ten-hour job involving the removal 
of the power steering/brake assist pump, intercooler, auxiliary radiator, 
spoiler, grills, headlights and bumper.  At Audi's current UK workshop rates, 
that's around $925 in labour charges.
