Abrupt accel. drop @ 3-4K RPM? & Weird aftermarket clutch (4KQ)

I recently replaced a split V-shaped hose that sits just on the
engine side of the air intake area (where the air filter is).
It had been causing RPM stability and starting problems.

Now when I get to 3-4K RPM, often I get an abrupt loss of power
that lasts a few seconds.  I also noticed a slight fuel odor
in the area around the air intake.

I have absolutely no idea what is wrong.  Fuel pump?  Dist?

Also, I recently had my clutch replaced.  They said later they
used an aftermarket clutch.  Shifting is NOT smooth, and I
often get a slightly grating click into 3rd/4th.  Is this bad?
