???? NEVER on any ABS equiped car have I seen lights or heard beeps
when the ABS has engaged. Not on my 86 5k S/5k CSQ, 89 200Q nor on
the 97 A4.
You do get beep(s) with an error display on the multi-function display.
I'll even hazard the suggestion that there is no connection between
the ABS system and the multi-function display, but I don't have
the Bentley convenient.
I still believe the brake light when braking hard enough to engage
ABS is indicative of a dead bomb - there is inusufficient hydraulic
fluid stored in the bomb for hard braking with the ABS fighting
back, hydraulic pressure drops and you get the brake warning.
The 89 200 manual I have handy says if you see the brake light,
check the brake and hydraulic fluids and (quote)
"If both fluids are normal, the pressure for the hydraulic brake
booster may be too low. Drive with extrem caution to the nearest
Audi dealer or qualified workshop to have the entire brake
system checked...."
