Mike. Actually I have been doing a good bit of finger work calling
around on axles and the concensus on remanufactured axles from parties
that have and don't have a vested interest is that reman. is
sub-optimal due to the grinding of the CVJ. Specifically I was told
that the Lobro joints are hardened to 6/1000 ths of an inch and
remachining takes this away yielding joints that do not stand up
nearly as well.
Steering racks on th other hand do not go through this remachining
process so I can see where rebuilt would be just as good.
I am not into metallurgy(sp?) so I can't say myself how valid this is
but I suppose the answer to new vs. reman. boils down to dollars and
cents.
I'd love to hear some opinions on this regrinding and dropping in larger
balls that remanufacturers do.
