mystery capsule in my A4 key

So I go to replace the battery for the little flashlight in the key to my
96 A4Q.  I open up the fob, and there's the lamp, the battery, and this
strange removable capsule.  It's about as long as the battery, about 2/3 of
its diameter, it looks like it's made of glass or heavy plastic, and it's a
translucent green color.  Trapped inside the capsule there's some sort of
copper colored thing suspended in some goop.

Does anyone know what this is ?  Cyanide in case I ever think about buying
a BMW ?   (Sorry - couldn't resist.)
