I'm doing a survey on how long the original 1986-1988 5k rack lasts.    
If I get enough responses I'll post the results on the list.

How many miles are on your original factory equipt steering rack?

Interesting question.  I did not own my '87 5KCSTQ from new but I have the
service records on it.  1st rack lasted 47 K and was replaced by Audi at no
charge to original owner. 2nd rack is still in the car with currently 202K
on it.
The first Audi I owned (1984 5K) got 90 K on first rack. The second rack is
still in the car and has 350 K on it.
