Yes you are correct, (2) 4 gauge are the same as (1) 2 gauge and it does hide
better under the carpet. A circuit breaker is not only a good idea, it's a
must within 12 inches of the alternator output and again within 12 inches of
the battery on the line that supplies the vehicles system. So, depending on
where and how you supply the car you may need (4) 4 gauge. Actually, because I
thought that sounded like a lot of wire, I just checked my electrical wire
chart and with (1) 4 gauge cable you can carry almost 125 amps over 15 feet
safely. So unless you have something other than a stock alternator (90 amps)
you should be fine with (1) 4 gauge for normal use. While starting the car you
will draw more current, but for a very limited amount of time. Hope I've been
some help and remember I'm not the manufacturer so definetly get a 2nd opinion
and use this as advice only. You know, standard disclaimer.
