When I had my head off in February (neck trouble, actually) I did some
measuring here. The piston edges barely reach the block deck. The piston
has a pretty pronounced dish (8.5:1). The valves (granted, hyd lifters,
no oil pressure) were ~0.040 in (1.00 mm) from the bottom of the head.
The gasket has thickness. Based on this, I'm thinking the _US_-spec 4kq
(2.2 l, 8.5:1) is NI. I hope so, as I'm not afraid of the limiter (just
ask Tom ;-). The belt only has 25k on it, but the engine has 161k.
