     There was a "comparo" article in Car&Driver a year or 2 back on this 
     subject.  Besides the usual shenanigans one would expect from C&D, the 
     technical analysis was pretty good.  Straight line acceleration is 
     primarilly determined by horsepower/ weight ratio, and most bikes win 
     that one easily.  However, the autos were universally superior on 
     twisty roads.  The explanation given was that a well-designed and 
     built 4-wheel auto is controllable up to and slightly beyond the limit 
     of adhesion.  Whereas the consequence of pushing a bike past this 
     limit is disasterous (non-controllable).
