Re: Edmund's Review of A6
i agree that 3700 pounds w/ slushbox powered by a 2.8 liter 200 bhp engine
is too sluggish. the old v8 that i have is just a tad heavier, has 3.6
liters and 240 bhp and still doesn't exactly set things on fire.
but these guys probably don't know that you need about 8-10K miles on
the clock before the engine develops full power.
as for the styling, there are many people i know (myself included) who
love the styling, though i prefer the european version.
but AoA's current strategy of making mushy, sluggish barges is apparently
working. the new A6 is flying out of showrooms in the same way as the A4,
at least as far as my dealership is concerned. (lots of seniors buying
them too!) the dealer is having difficulty keeping a car in stock for a
demo.
i'm glad that the a4 is available with sports suspension and 5 spd manual.
quattro and slushboxes just don't seem to mix well. the a8's the only
slush Q with decent off the line acceleration. perhaps the A6 is just not
aimed at enthusiasts in the US and a different perspective is needed to
evaluate it.
