Audi Quattro 90 dead clutch

When the master cylinder fails, it's usually a gradual process - it will
stay down once, but will work when you pull it back up.  Then it will
work for a week or two, and fail again.  Gradually, the time between
failures reduces.

A sudden failure like yours sounds mechanical - e.g., the clevis pin.
I suggest you remove the cladding in the footwell and check the
mechanical linkages.
