Remains of the day: '91 200q
The insurance company's offer of payment on my totalled '91 200q finally
became "adequate" this morning, and I also bought back the wreck. Sorry to
say (to interested fellow qlisters) that I couldn't resist a very quick,
sanitary, and financially positive deal with Art Mayhew of Salisbury
Motorcar Corp (who had sold me the late 200q). Art is a nice guy who, I
believe, is known by many qlisters. I don't know how definite his plans are
to use the engine in his own '83 urq. Those with an interest in engine or
parts might want to contact him at 315-429-9902. (I've no longer any
personal interest in this...)
BTW, when I viewed the "remains" today, it was evident that the frontend
damage was somewhat more than I had thought earlier--but still not near any
engine vitals. The intercooler and auxiliary radiator might be "bent" a
little. Both headlights and entire bumper ass'y are history.
Anyway, it's time for me to focus on getting another quattro. If not
another '91 200, then maybe a '92 S4?
BTW, speaking of the S4, are there enough data to say how widespread its
tranny problem is? Does the problem run through all '92 VINs? And '93 as
well? Are there any early-warning symptoms? Typical mileage at failure?
