I had the same problem; drilled a hole in the base of the pedal, and holes in
the pedal cover, and used a large bent paper clip to hold it on.  Worked well
for over 20k miles so far; cost nothing.

ps:  any suggestions on Nokian snows? size, steel wheel source, price, where
to buy.  Over 11" of snow so far today. !!!!
Also: suggestions on adding a CD changer?  Mail order places, brand/model,
etc.  I'll be going with the FM modulator, low budget solution...
