Re: Tribune review
Sarge,
Although my logic is often flawed :-), one of the problems I'm having here
is that 5 or 6 people are responding to me and I am then trying to respond
back. The result is that my posts are getting a little confused b/c I'm
trying to respond to everyone. I think my original intent was to be
something of a devil's advocate and point out that just b/c a car is a
quattro it doesn't mean it is the best handling thing in the world -
particularly when compared to BMW. I am talking about street cars not BTCC
because I agree that with high hp AWD is the best. In addition BTCC cars
don't have the high center of gravity that the 44s do, the 60/40
distribution, etc.
I was comparing an M3 to the VERY MODIFIED 5tq/S4/S6s because that is what I
saw. I agree that at Blackhawk the M3 has an advantage over larger cars -
not so sure about Grattan unless the car is really a pig. In any case a 5TQ
weighs 3350lbs. I can't imagine that a M3 is less than 3000. And the only
reason I brought it up is b/c of the high degree of modifications on these
Qs. I figured that would count for something in the equation. To be honest,
it's my belief that a late 80's M5 would be even more convincing at Grattan
than the M3.
When this whole thing started I mentioned that I thought it had been
discussed before. I have been searching the archives and came up with nice
posts from QSHIPQ on 1/12/97 "Re: dry performance q's", "q&a", etc. His
posts are much more logical and informed than my various attempts;-). He
addresses many of the arguments you and Phil raise.
Happy Holidays,

P.S. QSHIPQ - sorry for handing off to you on this. I'm out of my league.
Just know what I feel in the seat of my pants (no jokes!) and saw at the
track.
