first lets get the freedom of religon rant out of the way - I also don't
believe in new cars.  Of course I have to ignore the evidence of my
senses to maintain this belief...

I am lucky I guess, Ed Byrnes Audi in Dover NH will order parts based on
a phone call, call me when they're in, they know my car is an Audi even
though it doesn't look like what they sell, and they are always friendly
and polite.

I don't think it's an intentional discouragement.  It's just expensive
to support parts for cars built in small volume.  BTW my friend's MB oil
pan cost $600, his distributor *rotor* was over $100.  Of course the
headlight switch I'd like to replace is about $40...
