Pop the lamp-holder out, pull off the connector and examine the traces on the 
rear of the lamp-holder in _good_ light.  It's not unknown for heavy objects in 
the trunk/boot to hit the rear of the light cluster and crack one of the 
lands.  These cracks can be _bitches_ to spot - BTDT last month. 

(The one I found was invisible from a foot under an office desk lamp.  I found 
 it with a 20x stereo microscope after tracing it with a continuity buzzer.)
