Re; Thermostat question
Your thermostat, as indiciated by your gauge readings, seems to be
working fine. Is this you first car with a temp gauge by any chance?
It is normal for a car (at least the 1/2 doz. Q's I've owned) to run
hotter at a prolonged idle than when driving (especially in the winter).
At idle there is no flow of air through the radiator, at least on newer
car with electrical fans, which your Q has. This causes the temp to
rise, though it shouldn't be in the red, it should also cause your fan
to kick in, draw some air through the rad and lower the temp. Basically,
mimicking the conditions of driving the car at "speed".
If your car started to take a really long time to warm up, or started to
overheat in situations, then I would look at the thermostat. Till then,
enjoy the fact that your new sender is working. :-)
