Careful...early 80/90 inconsistencies

I originally wrote in response to a question:

>'88/'89 80/90Q fog lights worked independently. Audi changed it in 1990.

And Kirby Smith replied:

>Both my 1988 90qs' fog lights are dependent on the headlights. This
appears to
>be consistent with the schematics in my Bentley. An approach to changing
this
>involving removing the fog lamp relay and jumpering terminals is given on

This brings up a point in working w/Mr. Bentley. As a 5-time '88 90q owner
(I still have one of them in my driveway), I can say that the foglights on
the current '88 90q, *from the factory*, work independently of the
headlights. Not to say that Kirby's don't; my point is that, as a first
year model, Audi made a large number of running changes on the '88 90q.
And Bentley didn't do a good job showing all the variations. I have two
Bentley's for the '88 90q; and old one and a very recent one. They differ,
especially in info on the first year in the USA (1988).

I'll change my first statement above to be 'IME, the '88/'89 90Q fog lights
worked independently'. One of these days, I'll get around to documenting
some of this stuff about the 90q's (one of my 90q's was built very early,
in July '87...now that had some interesting pieces on it!...)..........SLM
