Catering to used-car buyers?

Why not? If you make a car that a used-car buyer will want, that
means that the resale value that a new-car buyer will get when he
sells will be high. My Acura Integra, according to the KBB, is worth
_more_ than I paid for it! That's part of why they're soooo popular.
Buying one is not a risk. I've put $200 of maintenance into the Acura
over a year and a half, and I could get at least most of what I paid
for it back now. That's a strong incentive to buy a new one! Am I
missing something?
