Hugh,

Sit, feel, drive for yourself. We sell both, it's the old story about
different folks, different strokes. The Passat appeals to more people here
than the A4 largely because of prices (both high, Audi HIGH). We have one
Passat 2.8 syncro Highline Sedan in inventory, loaded, w/ price tag approx.
USD 50 000.00, and the equivalently equipped A4 2.8 quattro approx. USD 70
000.00. Thanks to people with equisite taste and high standards blah, blah,
blah, the A4's find their buyers. I don't suspect that we will have trouble
selling our allocation of 50 units next year. We will probably get 3-4
times the volume through Passat allocation...

The Passat has been out for a year now, I still have not brought one home -
they seem so ordinary after years behind Audi wheels. I still am a big fan
of Volkswagen (not only because of the obvious connection) but they are more
bread-and-butter, not quite the character of the Audi.
