Sounds like a pain to me, why deal with studs if you've got to remove them
everytime the head comes off? If you're fitting the racetech stuff, then the
head comes off initially, yes? At that point every Vw tech(and Audi) that I
know replaces the studs and nuts on the manifolds. Next time 'round if you
need to yank the head, just pull the exhaust manifold nuts and pry her back a
little. You don't even need to disturb the intake if you choose not to. It's
also the preferred method on ornery Vw's with headers(argh, grumble, grumble).

And Glen inquires:

Nuttin', it's the Vw's that present more of a problem. Although the 4000q's
battery tray may be close, I'd have to look...
