Re[2]: Motor Mounts -Reply
Mike, there seems to be a lot of confusion about these mounts. The
hydro mounts as they are called were used as of
1987. Are these a direct fit? The dealer lists 443 199 381J as the
correct replacement and it calls for a whole bunch of various little
parts, I assume a heat shield. This is a bonded rubber mounting.
Carlsen says the 382 is the hydro mount. Is this what I want? Do I
need all the little pieces from the 381J kit to retro fit this new
style bushing?
Thanks,
Andrew.

Andrew,
Yes it's confusing and I can only tell you what I know (usual
disclaimers:)
When I had the mechanic install one in the '83 he installed a
hydraulic mount the same as the (original). I'm certain the originals
(assuming they hadn't been changed by a previous owner) were hydraulic
mounts.
When I did the one in the '85 I went to Audi and they said the
hydraulic one was discontinued and proceeded to sell me the
"replacement" parts. These are solid rubber/metal mounts, very much
like bigger tranny/rear diff mounts. I still have them plus a bunch of
parts (bolts spacers etc?) that were required. Because I was uncertain
on how good the "new" mounts were I actually fitted the hydraulic one
from the '83.
I will do a bit of digging tonight and look at my euro ur-q fiche.
I'd also be very interested in hearing from anyone on the list who has
recently changed their ur-q engine mounts in particular what part
numbers were used?
Regards, Mike
p.s. Anyone in Canada who is performing DeWitt's 5kt rad fan fuse
modification should note that the part number for the bracket 443 971
845 AM doesn't exist in Canada. A new part number is being created asI
write and I'll post this part number to the list in two weeks. I'm
off to see if there are any quattros in Tobago.
