Re: Catering to used-car buyers?

Fringe was saying:

>>>As for sacrifices buying used, that was relative to your comment about
>>>technology. Tell me where you can find a three-year old car with 172HP,
>>>torsen center differential, ABS5, airbags, a torque-steering-eliminating
>>>four-link front suspension, and (if you like automatics), Tiptronic
>>>transmission. You do make sacrifices, they just may not be worth much
to you.
Granted, I can't tell you where to find exactly the above, but life is full
of choices. I can tell you that I paid far less than the cost of a new Ford
Escort for a car with 8 less horsepower, torsen center differential,
locking rear diff, upgraded hi-power CD player, leather, ABS, an airbag,
and I can do without the fourlink without losing a wink of sleep (no
Tiptronic for me thanks). I also got exclusivity which is fun and I must
admit, a pain in the ass when it comes to parts and service. With the extra
18 grand I've paid for maintenance on it, bought a 17 foot ski-boat, a
motorcycle, and a few thousand gallons of gas. Well, to each his/her own.
Like I said, life is full of choices :-)

>>>It may play in, but not as much as the other factors. And here's
evidence:
>>> Watch a hundred television commercials for autos in the U.S., playing
this
>>>month. I'd guess they're close to evenly split between touting
performance
>>>(speed, offroading, etc.), touting reliability or safety, and focusing
on
>>>the looks of the car. I'd bet that you can't find even two that so much
as
>>>>mention resale value.

Four words: Target Audience, not evidence.

Hey Fringe....let's agree to disagree.

Have a Happy and Safe New Year All!!!
