V8 Tranny Software and Gearing

I was test driving a '90 V8 yesterday, and had a question on the tranny
software.

When the switch is in S, E, M are my assumptions below correct?

S- Sport, puts the tranny is sport, starts car in 1st gear? How high does
first gear go? It shifted at about 6,000 RPM and 50 MPH, is this first
gear?

E- Economy, starts the car in second gear?

M- You choose the gear.....

Am I correct?
